What will come of Diego Maradona?

Diego Maradona at the crease!

The football quarter finals match between Germany and Argentina yesterday was really a match to watch! Germany trounced Argentina by scoring 4-0, with the ‘deciding’ early goal within 5 minutes of start of the match.

But now with Argentina’s loss, what will come of Diego Maradona?

Of course, Argentina made their second consecutive World Cup quarterfinal before losing to the Germans, but Maradona’s young players were not nearly at their best in this match. Lionel Messi, the man proclaimed by Maradona himself as “the next Maradona” and considered to be the best player in the world….. had less goals in this World Cup 2010.

Many of Maradona’s selections will certainly be examined underneath the microscope after the disappointment in South Africa as Argentina will want nothing more than their first World Cup in 28 years in Brazil in 2014.

With this disapointment, one also has to wonder if Maradona will still be in as the manager of Argentina in the future. Will he or will he not? That is a question that certainly will be pondered going forward as the great Argentinian ‘Maradona’ could get another chance with the Copa America coming up, or he might be out of a job as Argentina look for the manager that will get them back to the promised land of being World Cup Champions.

Brazil as well as Argentina are ‘out’ – with European teams dominating the World Cup 2010. Unbelievable?
