Users get addicted to Facebook!

With face-book getting very popular, users are getting addicted to it! Frequent visits to the site have developed narcissistic tendencies amongst its users!!

Particularly, the college going boys and girls find face-book useful to be in ‘regular’ touch with their friends! The housewives, working mothers can enter into a gossip, without the inconvenience of real time, through face-book when they are free. Many users create family photo albums and since it does not cost anything to upload – they are excited to get themselves or their recent activities’ photographs immortalized on the internet. At times, they are too many photos!!! Ugh! I skip them completely.

Girls/ Women use face-book to promote themselves by constantly changing their personal profile, photos to sustain continued interest of the viewers. In contrast, boys/ men promote themselves by placing their posts or notes through face-book to exhibit their intellect, writing prowess etc. Many of these users write biography that is outright false: like married women state they are single; or men highlight such sports activities in their profile, which they have never done – in order to pull interesting friends from the opposite sex. The site being Virtual is far removed, but soon becoming an intrinsic part of our daily lives.

The beauty of the face-book is that many of its features i.e., privacy settings – that allow users to decide how they want to manage their ‘virtual’ presence. It is completely up to them to decide how friendly they want to be with others! It enables restricting one’s online activities to a particular group of friends.

Personally, I find face-book a gossipmonger and I do not really like that! But, it is a good platform through which one can gain new readers at regular intervals, to read one’s blog page! NO! I do not feel blogging as a tool to promote gossip – but it helps one to develop/ improve his writing ability and cultivates healthy discussion on selected topics! Also, blogging inculcates interest to read more on varied subjects; it enables analytical thinking that is necessary to comprehend and write detailed posts, besides being a medium to satisfy the writer’s emotions.

But, if the speed of present ‘modern’ society renders people faceless and anonymous; face-book gives people a face!
