First things First! Definitely, Barrack Obama could not have become the US President if he was not born in the US and we all know that! There is no provision in the US Constitution to allow a non-American (by birth) to stand for the Presidential Elections! Hence, I do not understand why should Donald Trump make this non-issue a big debate?
There are more serious challenges facing USA – in effect, the world (sic!) – the growth rate of the US economy is dismal and China is looking over Uncle Sam’s shoulder, trying to grab more and more US markets! Good strategy – Give more loans, capture more markets! Very old technique – Indian money lenders have been practicing this for a long period in the past in Indian villages! One thing is significant – Donald Trump is trying to get elected at the 2012 Republican presidential nomination since he feels he, the Asian Dragon, alone can save the US from China! This looks to me like LK Advani ( from the Opposition party BJP in India) Joke/ stunt, pulling up non issues and making a fool of himself!
Well, Obama pulled out his birth certificate from Honolulu, Hawaii authorities and put an end to this matter once for all. And Trump ducked! Now, we hope he doesn’t ask Obama for his academic credentials, school mark-sheets, dental records etc (in that order).
Well, in India – no one has asked for birth certificates from our age-old non-retiring political leaders – because such a practice is not mandatory here. Yes, Rules apply to foreigners! Sonia Gandhi could not become the PM because she is an Italian by birth. Smart lady, she became the UPA chairperson instead, controlling both the ruling government as well as the Congress party/ Alliance. India is working on an ambitious UID (Unique Identification Number) project to regularize identity factor and remove ambiguity. But, Munna bhai, ‘filmy’ social reformer hero, can still ask someone else to appear for his academic examination even today! No hassles, just have to grease the bureaucratic palms or show the gun. I wonder, whether all our age-old (Indian) political leaders know when they were born? Do not be surprised, most likely, they would not know!
