‘Deepika Padukone (born 5 January 1986) is an Indian film actress and model. She appears mostly in Bollywood films. Born to badminton player Prakash Padukone, she chose to become an actress.
Deepika Padukone made her acting debut with the 2006 Kannada film ‘Aishwarya’. The following year, she played the lead female role in the reincarnation melodrama ‘Om Shanti Om’; the film proved a major commercial success and earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. She was later noted for portraying modern, independent women in several commercially successful films, including the 2009 romantic drama ‘Love Aaj Kal’, the 2010 comedy ‘Housefull’, the 2012 romantic comedy ‘Cocktail’ and the 2013 coming-of-age romantic comedy ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ (also her biggest financial success). Her performance in ‘Cocktail’ proved to be a turning point in her career, earning her unanimous critical appreciation and Best Actress nominations at several award ceremonies.’ ( Wikipedia)
Deepika is un-conventional and portrays a new look, moving away from the stereotype image of a Bollywood heroine – she is clearly independent, a thinker, a new age modern woman, a self-made star handling multiple tasks with admirable ease. I have seen two movies where she has acted as heroine, besides her TV appearance in the ‘Kaun Banega Krorepati’ quiz programme anchored by Amitabh Bachchan. In ‘Love Aaj Kal’ – Deepika – with Saif Ali Khan and Rishi Kapoor as male stars – shuttles between Aaj and Kal (yesterday) – Deepika proves to be a worthy actor in this movie, despite the fact that she was matching up with a seasoned actor like Saif Ali Khan and veteran Rishi Kapoor.
Deepika Padukone comes from a Kannada middle-class family, from Bangalore – who was always keen to be an actor though she has underwent coaching or training to be a good badminton player. Sports has built endurance in her; she has received good parenting as a matter of fact and luck. She got a good ‘break’ to act as a heroine with Shahrukh Khan in the movie ‘Om Shanti Om’ – she looks ethereal in this movie – a fantasy chased by the character played by Sharukh Khan. Lately, she has been in news for the wrong reasons – break ups with Ranbir Kapoor and Siddarth Mallya. She has a steady boy-friend relationship with Ranveer Singh Now ! She has grounded herself to the ground well, to compete with reining female film star Katrina Kaif and is aiming to make a place for herself at the top.
Personally, I find her to be an un-assuming, accessible, realistic, confident and independent woman – a new look of Bollywood heroine !
