1234 .. Get on to CHENNAI EXPRESS ! – Movie Review

Chennai_Express

40 year old ‘bachelor’ Rahul ( Shah Rukh Khan) is asked by his granny (played by now frail looking Kamini Kaushal) to drop his grandpa’s ashes in Rameswaram, the southern-most tip of India. He boards the Chennai Express to hood-wink granny but has secretly planned a get-away with his guy friends to Goa. Alas, in – Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge – fashion, a damsel in distress, Meena ( called ‘Meenamma’ – role played by Deepika Padukone) asks for his outstretched hand as he stands on the foot-board. And his Samaritan act changes his destiny. He discovers she’s the daughter of a Don from a South-side village and her accompanying cousins (Tamil speaking hulks in pony tails) want her to return home. Her father wants Meena to marry another hulk, Thangaballi (Niketan Dheer) from a nearby village, so that he can then rule over two villages. Meena resists and insists to her father (played by veteran Tamil actor Sathyaraj) that it is Rahul who has her fancy. The father relents but the other hulks resist. The drama, comedy and action begins ..

For what is primarily a Hindi film, there’s too much spoken Tamil. I am sure, Tamilians will enjoy the movie much more, as they can relate to the actor-mannerisms, super ‘scenic’ locales of Munnar (Kerala State) and local spoken language Tamil. This shows how Tamil has got the public attention and is getting to be a very popular language all over the world keeping in mind the record box-office collections of the movie in just 3 days after its release. There are plenty of scenes played by south cinema stars’ in cameo roles that you can identify with. Finally, there is a tribute to the Tamil film-superstar Rajnikanth. Don’t miss the ‘lungi dance’ in this song.

Good choice of a movie for family get-together and outing. We enjoyed the fun and frolic amidst ample laughter and guffaws in the auditorium. Especially the music and the songs are very good – the soundtrack of Chennai Express is composed by Vishal-Shekhar. The movie is co-produced by SRK’s wife Gauri khan, Ronnie screwvala ( Managing Director of Disney-UTV India) and Siddharth Roy Kapur ( CEO of UTV Motion Pictures and husband to Actress Vidya Balan)

READY STEADY PO !! GO WATCH THE MOVIE 🙂
