‘Arangetram’ – Advancement of a Dance/ Music Student !

( Kum Gayatri, Kum K. Shruti and Kum. S. Shruthi – performing their Arangetram on Sunday, 8th September, 2013)

‘Arangetram’ is the debut on-stage performance of a classical art student, after undertaking years of training.

In Tamil ‘Arangam’ means a stage and ‘etram’ means rising or climbing, thus Arangetram literally means climbing the stage or reaching the stage. It refers to the graduation ceremony where the Guru presents his or her pupil to the public. The Arangetram can be done for Bharata Natyam and other Indian classical dance styles such as Kathak, KuchiPudi, ManiPuri, Kathakali and vocal (singing carnatic) or playing instruments like Mridangam, Ghatam, Violin etc.

Sanskriti Academy of Fine Arts invited me to the ‘Bharata Natyam’ Arangetram of Kum Gayatri, Kum K. Shruti and Kum. S. Shruthi on Sunday 8th September, 2013 at Dr.Kashinath Ghanekar Natyagruha Hall, Thane west.
