‘Phata Poster, Nikhla Hero’ is about an aspiring actor, Vishwas (played by Shahid Kapoor) who wants to be a famous hero one day. However, his mother ( played by Padmini Kolhapure, oh, why her ?) is an honest, auto-rickshaw driver who wants her son to be a good cop. Typical Hindi movie Rhona-Dhona – a hard working mother and fun-loving ‘darling’ child – this mother-son relationship serves to be the anchor of the film, with ‘Tujhe sab hai pata, meri maa’ (from ‘Taare Zaamein Par’) being played in the background.
Technically speaking, in the movie, Shahid Kapoor isn’t Chulbul Pandey (‘Dabangg’) or Bajirao Singham (‘Singham’). Instead, he is the ‘action-comedy Hero’ who is actually quite afraid to get into fights with the wrong-doers. Shahid Kapoor’s love interest is Kajal, a social worker who’s sole aim in her life is to register FIRs against the wrong-doers. Played by South India cinema star Ileana D’Cruz, she is almost awkward in most of the comic scenes.
Watch out for the ‘comic’ in the pole dance done by Shahid ‘Cop’ Kapoor !! Rajkumar Santoshi’s ‘Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahaani’ worked mainly because of Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif’s chemistry and Ranbir’s flawless comic timing which barely went wrong anywhere in the film. Let’s hope Shahid Kapoor’s impulsive dialogue ‘throw’ works the same in this action comedy film.
The basic idea of naming the film as ‘Phata Poster Nikhla Hero’, is validated when Shahid Kapoor makes a bombastic ‘entry’ from the air, tearing off the poster of ‘Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani’ 🙂
