Do you need a Sleep clinic ?

‘Do you experience frequent memory loss, mental dullness, inability to concentrate for long periods of time and diminishing life skills? Are you losing your sharpness and sense of humour? You could be suffering from Obstructive Sleep Apnea, a condition that is driving many young people in their 30s to sleep clinics. Thirteen per cent of the Indian population suffers from OSA, a condition where the throat muscles contract during sleep, depriving the body of its required oxygen. This condition is prevalent among the non-obese too.

The reason for the contraction of the upper airway muscles include stressful lifestyle, improper ‘sleep hygiene’ and wrong food habits. Of the 13 per cent who are victims of the ailment, only four per cent are identified as sufferers after they meet a doctor. Alarm bells ring when their loved ones realize that they are not just snoring but choking during their sleep. Of late, many young people are approaching sleep clinics on their own’.( Excerpt from: ‘Memory loss drives youngsters to sleep clinics’ – Deccan Chronicle Dt Sept 23, 2013 )
