‘Manmohan Singh does not seek to be master; neither does he exert himself to avoid being a master. When he became PM, he did not feel honoured and when he ceases to be PM, he would not feel dishonoured. And if he has taken cues from Mrs G, he has no issues doing the same with Rahul. He is merely winding down and finishing his prarabdha karma — hence he does not need to either shield or not shield criminals, or move anything in the cabinet given that there are many others who want to do that.’ (Excerpt from Narayani Ganesh’s Blog/ TOI article : ‘MMS, self-realised PM’ Dt Oct 2, 2013)
Bhagavad Gita chapter 18, verse 10, says : ‘The abandoner, soaked in purity, being intelligent, with all his doubts cut asunder, hates not disagreeable action, nor is he attached to an agreeable action’.
Swami Chinmayananda explains this verse well in the following words, through his commentary book on Bhagavad Gita : ‘A man established in Sattwic abandonment never hates nor does he ever feel attached. He is not miserable in disagreeable environments nor does he get attached to the circumstances and scheme-of-things which are agreeable to his taste. He does his duties under all circumstances, agreeable or disagreeable, without feeling elated when he finds himself on the ‘peaks’, or feeling dejected when he discovers himself in the ‘pits’ of life.’
Dr Manmohan Singh – ‘Born in Gah (now in Punjab, Pakistan) on Sept 26, 1932, Singh’s family migrated to India during its partition in 1947. After obtaining his doctorate in economics from Oxford, Singh worked for the United Nations in 1966–69. He subsequently began his bureaucratic career when Lalit Narayan Mishra hired him as an advisor in the Ministry of Foreign Trade. Over the 70s and 80s, Singh held several key posts in the Government of India, such as Chief Economic Advisor (1972–76), Reserve Bank governor (1982–85) and Planning Commission head (1985–87).’ Check out Wikipedia for complete details on his profile and credentials. Does anyone in the current Indian political scene has ‘credentials’ what he does ?
Dr Manmohan Singh is least perturbed by the constant ‘mud-slinging’ done at him either by the opposition party members or for that matter, by any one else. He is undeterred in completing his ‘Prarabdha’ karma. And, this principle should apply to each of us, having born in a human form. What is destined cannot be snatched away from anyone or over-ruled or even negated. One has to put his best efforts but he or she is rewarded as ordained by destiny. This very fact .. moots the smart ones to debate on subject ‘whether it is free will or fate ?’ – I will confidently state .. it is ‘free will’ to achieve what is fated. In case of Dr Manmohan Singh too, contrary to what many feel, he has a free will. He is a political survivor in worldy terms, an effective leader in managing coalition government and an abandoner (jivan-mukta) as described in spirituality.
