Director Jeetu Joseph spends a good part of the first half of the movie introducing the characters in a sleepy, verdant village called Papanasam.
The protagonist, Suyambu Lingam ( role played by the Ace actor Kamal Haasan) is an uneducated self made man but he is very intelligent and knowledgeable. He runs a cable network business and ‘cinema’ is not only his passion but is a window to the outside world. He is parsimonious with his hard earned money but absolutely generous to a fault when it comes to loving his family.
Suyambu Lingam arrives one morning to find his house in disarray. A predator has preyed upon his most precious possession, his family. A crime has been committed and now he has to use all his native intelligence to cover up the incident and save his family from the cops.
Kamal Haasan excels in this movie and I am thoroughly impressed by his performance. The success of the film relies on watertight script that would have got a nod of approval from detective films’ maker Alfred Hitchcock. Family sentiments may look silly in a Hitchcock movie but the hall mark of this movie ‘Papanasam’ is family sentiments. In fact, it is the family sentiments which absolves Suyambu Lingam’s family of the crime in the eyes of the viewers of the film.
The entire supporting cast in the movie have been chosen very well and all of them play their roles to perfection. There are two melodious songs that are relevant to the content/ story of the movie. Go ..Watch it with your family!
