I was recently listening to a heated discussion between Philosopher and enlightened being, U.G. Krishnamurti( 1918-2007) and his philosopher colleagues on the YouTube. U. G. Krishnamurti, was an Indian man who questioned enlightenment. Although many considered him an “enlightened” person, Krishnamurti often referred to his state of being as the “natural state”. He claimed that the demand for enlightenment was the only thing standing in the way of enlightenment itself, if enlightenment existed at all. I agree with his statement that demand for enlightenment stands in the way of enlightenment. Instead, if one looks inward by ‘thinking’ with the sole intention of exploring regardless of any expectation of results, there are better chances of getting enlightened. Needless to add, enlightenment is unforeseen in all cases and one only stumbles into it. This is the same case with U. G. Krishnamurti as admitted by him. Of course, he has gone one step further and written about his spiritual experience through his books. And, there are many who have made loads of money talking about it, while some of have used it effectively in their respective profession.
Wikipedia states, ‘Thought can refer to the ideas or arrangements of ideas that result from thinking, the act of producing thoughts, or the process of producing thoughts. Although thought is a fundamental human activity familiar to everyone, there is no generally accepted agreement as to what thought is or how it is created. Thoughts may or may not arise in the mind from the product of subconscious brain processing. Because thought underlies many human actions and interactions, understanding its physical and metaphysical origins, processes, and effects has been a longstanding goal of many academic disciplines including psychology, neuroscience, philosophy, artificial intelligence, biology, sociology and cognitive science.’
Most spiritual seekers do not realize what is referred to be the natural state of mind. What is natural state of mind? What is called as the state of happiness? State of permanent happiness? Is there any state of permanent happiness? What about the other states of mind? Can state of mind be singular, focused on one goal or an objective to realize a greater vision?
Enlightenment is knowing. And knowing can occur only as a result of thinking. Knowing is showing or suggesting that one has knowledge or awareness that is secret or known to only a few people.
