Visited the Rann Utsav Gujarat 2015 – 16 .. White desert .. a novel tourist destination!

The Great Rann of Kutch is in district of Kutch, Gujarat state of India, between the Gulf of Kutch and the Mouth of river Sindhu ( called as Indus river) that is located in Pakistan. There is a vast flat land which gets filled with sea water during the monsoon and when it gets dried up (around October every year), a white sheet of salt gets deposited on the sea bed. That’s why it called as the white desert. Around January every year, the surface becomes very hard enough to use it as a football play-ground. Many foreigners enjoy playing the game of football under moonlight, as told to me by my car driver.

Most likely, the famed business acumen of our Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has helped in making ‘Rann of Kutch’ a tourist destination. This had attracted lot of media attention too.

The ‘Rann Utsav’ which got started for the first time, in the winters of the year 2012, initiated by Shri Narendra Modi, ex-chief minister of Gujarat, has gained lots of success due to the activities available there and close proximity to Rann
( white desert).

This year, the celebration started from 06th December 2015 and will go on till 05th March 2016.

Quite a novel experience to stay with family in a hut at the rann utsav .. for the first time. It is well furnished and air conditioned hut with a television ( DTH). Overall, the experience was great experience. The food is included in the bill .. Gujarati meals and inter-continental breakfast. We had a car with driver at our disposal throughout the entire trip .. in Bhuj as well as in Jaipur/ Agra.
